The Icelandic Avalanche Association was founded on November 2nd 2023. Its goal is to be a venue for avalanche professionals from different fields in Iceland to share their knowledge and expertise together in shared events.
The founding meeting had representatives from The Meteorological Office, ICE-SAR, Engineers, Arhcitects, Police, Civil Defense, The Association of Icelandic Mountain Guides and The Icelandic Ski Area Association.
The first public event was held on November 3rd with lectures for the public ranging from Avalanche Monitoring, Protective Structure Engineering, Avalanche Mitigation with Explosives, the complexities of an organized Avalanche Rescue and the future of the Avalanche Association.
